1. Introduction
This Acceptable Use Policy ("Policy") sets out the rules and guidelines for using the SitEasy platform. By using our Platform, you agree to comply with this Policy. Violation of this Policy may result in suspension or termination of your account.
This Policy should be read together with our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
2. General Conduct
All users of the Platform must:
- Treat all other users with respect, courtesy, and professionalism
- Provide accurate and truthful information in profiles, listings, and communications
- Respond to booking requests and messages in a timely manner
- Honour confirmed bookings and commitments
- Report any safety concerns, incidents, or policy violations promptly
- Comply with all applicable South African laws and regulations
3. Prohibited Conduct
The following conduct is strictly prohibited on the Platform:
3.1 Fraud and Misrepresentation
- Creating fake accounts or profiles
- Impersonating another person or entity
- Providing false or misleading information
- Using stolen identity documents or credentials
- Submitting fraudulent reviews or ratings
3.2 Payment Circumvention
- Attempting to arrange payments outside the Platform
- Sharing bank details, payment links, or cash payment arrangements before or during bookings
- Encouraging other users to transact off-platform
- Creating bookings at artificially low values to reduce platform fees
Important: All payments must be processed through the SitEasy platform. Off-platform payments void any protection or recourse available through SitEasy.
3.3 Contact Information Sharing
- Sharing phone numbers, email addresses, or social media handles before a booking is confirmed
- Including contact information in profile descriptions or photos
- Requesting contact information from other users before booking confirmation
3.4 Harassment and Abuse
- Harassment, bullying, or intimidation of any user
- Discriminatory conduct based on race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, or any other protected characteristic
- Threatening, abusive, or offensive language
- Unwanted contact after a booking has ended or been declined
3.5 Illegal Activities
- Using the Platform for any illegal purpose
- Theft, property damage, or trespassing
- Drug use or possession on client properties
- Any activity that violates South African law
4. Client Responsibilities
Clients engaging Sitters through the Platform have specific responsibilities to ensure a safe and successful sitting experience:
4.1 Property Preparation
Before a sitting engagement, Clients should:
- Lock all rooms that will not be used by the Sitter. Sitters should only have access to areas necessary for the sitting engagement (e.g., kitchen, living areas, pet areas, one bedroom if overnight).
- Secure all valuables, important documents, and irreplaceable items. This includes jewellery, cash, electronics, passports, and sentimental items. Consider using a safe or locked room.
- Remove or secure any items you do not want the Sitter to access or use.
- Provide clear instructions about which areas are off-limits.
While SitEasy takes steps to verify Sitters, we cannot guarantee against all risks. Taking these precautions significantly reduces the likelihood of misunderstandings or incidents.
4.2 Accurate Information
- Provide accurate information about your pets, including any behavioural issues, medical conditions, or special needs
- Disclose any hazards or safety concerns at your property
- Provide working contact numbers for emergencies
- Leave clear instructions for pet care, feeding, medication, and routines
4.3 Property Condition
- Ensure the property is clean, safe, and habitable for the Sitter
- Ensure all utilities (water, electricity, internet) are functioning
- Provide necessary supplies for pet care
- Ensure security systems are explained and access codes provided
5. Sitter Responsibilities
Sitters offering services through the Platform have specific responsibilities to maintain trust and professionalism:
5.1 No Visitors Policy
Sitters are strictly prohibited from:
- Inviting or permitting any visitors to the Client's property during a sitting engagement without the Client's express written consent
- Allowing friends, family members, partners, or any other persons to enter or stay at the property
- Hosting gatherings, parties, or social events of any kind
- Allowing anyone other than themselves to care for the pets or access the property
Violation of this policy is grounds for immediate account termination and may result in legal action. If you require assistance during a sitting engagement, contact SitEasy support.
5.2 Property Respect
- Treat the Client's property with care and respect
- Only access areas necessary for the sitting engagement
- Do not use the Client's personal items without permission
- Leave the property in the same condition as found (or better)
- Report any damage or issues immediately
5.3 Pet Care Standards
- Provide attentive, compassionate care to all pets
- Follow the Client's instructions for feeding, medication, and routines
- Never leave pets unattended for extended periods
- Seek veterinary care immediately if a pet becomes ill or injured
- Provide regular updates to the Client as agreed
5.4 Professional Conduct
- Arrive on time for meet and greets and sitting engagements
- Maintain professional communication at all times
- Do not consume alcohol or drugs during sitting engagements
- Do not smoke inside the Client's property
- Respect the Client's privacy and confidentiality
6. Communication Guidelines
All communication through the Platform should be:
- Professional and respectful
- Relevant to the booking or enquiry
- Free from spam, advertising, or promotional content
- Free from offensive, discriminatory, or inappropriate content
All messages sent through the Platform are logged and may be reviewed for safety and compliance purposes.
7. Reviews and Ratings
Reviews and ratings should be:
- Honest and based on genuine experiences
- Fair and constructive
- Free from personal attacks or defamatory statements
- Not influenced by incentives, threats, or coercion
We reserve the right to remove reviews that violate these guidelines or our Terms of Service.
8. Reporting Violations
If you witness or experience a violation of this Policy, please report it immediately through:
All reports are treated confidentially and investigated promptly. We do not tolerate retaliation against users who report violations in good faith.
9. Consequences of Violations
Violations of this Policy may result in:
- Warning or formal notice
- Temporary suspension of account
- Permanent termination of account
- Withholding of payouts
- Reporting to law enforcement where appropriate
- Legal action to recover damages
The severity of consequences depends on the nature and severity of the violation, prior violations, and other relevant factors.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. We will notify users of material changes by posting the updated policy on the Platform. Your continued use of the Platform after such changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
